Sasol GTC Racing Team in maximum attack mode for Killarney races

Sandton, South Africa – With two rounds remaining in the Sasol GTC Championship, the gloves are off in the Sasol GTC Racing Team as Gennaro Bonafede challenges for the championship against his main rivals in the Audi camp.

With four victories, three second-place finishes and one third place result to his credit, Bonafede trails the championship leader, Michael Stephen by 16 points. He is single-mindedly going all-out to close the gap, starting with the pair of races at Killarney Raceway on 22nd September.

Bonafede powered his BMW GTC racing car to his fourth victory last time out at Kyalami at the beginning of September and aims to replicate his performance at the coastal circuit.

Robert Wolk, behind the wheel of the #41 Sasol BMW GTC is looking for a strong finish to his season, but will support the team’s goals, by taking points away from their rivals.

Team manager, Vic Maharaj is confident ahead of the crucial clash: “The team has done a lot of homework to rebuild Gennaro’s engine and sort out Robbie’s issues. We will be in a good space. Killarney demands stability under braking and good traction out of corners, where our cars are very good. We won’t take any unnecessary risks but the team has to go as hard as the race allows. The cars are so equally matched it is improbable to claim both race wins with one driver. I’m looking forward to a clean weekend in the Cape.”

“Cape Town will present another opportunity for me to close down the points lead to Michael. I have to use every opportunity the team gives me to maximize my points take out. The car was amazing at Kyalami which gives me huge confidence leading to the end of the season. Besides fighting for championship honours, the other teams will all be going for glory wins so it is not going to be easy,” is Bonafede’s view of the forthcoming races.

Wolk is looking for a podium place as a realistic result from his coastal outing. “The team has done well to resolve the issues I had at the last round. Given Gennaro’s pace at Kyalami, I should be in good shape to race at the front of the pack. Then again, everyone has the same goal, so it is going to be a really competitive race week which the motorsport-loving fans of Cape Town are going to love.”
