Sasol GTC Racing Team aiming for top honours at Zwartkops races

Gennaro Bonafede heads into round four of the Sasol GTC Championship with a lead of 36 points following three straight victories in the opening phase of the season. Over the next three rounds, his fortune has waned slightly, so he will be coming out with all guns blazing to rebuild a comfortable lead before the season reaches its mid-point next month.

The team has been hard at work preparing their two BMW GTC racing cars for the two races next Friday. Team Manager, Vic Maharaj said: “It is always our aim to provide Gennaro and Robert with the best possible equipment in terms of performance and reliability so they can focus on their race performance and keeping the racing tidy and clean. It is essential to build a mature weekend with controlled aggression. Although Zwartkops is our home track, there is no particular advantage because everyone races on it on a regular basis”.

“I’m going out to win races”, declared Bonafede. “It is too early in the season to play the game of averages. I need to counter-attack and apply my racing mindset. The Sasol GTC Championship has become very competitive and our team is most definitely up for the challenge. My plan for the weekend is to use the practice sessions as a build up to the all-important qualifying session and ultimately the two races”.

Robert Wolk: “I had a successful race weekend last month In East London and I’m certainly looking forward to record the same or better result at Zwartkops. Having claimed my maiden GTC podium, was a morale-booster for both myself and the team!”

It will be a busy day for the Sasol GTC Racing Team, with three practice sessions and official qualifying on Thursday and two races on Friday. The team enjoys a strong support base in Pretoria and fans are welcome to visit the team in their pit area.
